Presbyopia (Aging Eyes & Vision)

An unfortunate side effect of aging, presbyopia refers to a condition that all adults over the age of 45 will eventually experience. When your eye’s crystalline lens ages, it becomes less flexible, which negatively affects focus and can make it increasingly difficult for you to perform everyday tasks such as reading or working on a computer screen.

If you’re over the age of 45 and experiencing symptoms such as trouble focusing, increased squinting, eye strain or eye fatigue, presbyopia may the cause. Your eye doctor can conduct a simple eye exam, and if it is determined that you are indeed suffering from presbyopia, you can discuss a variety of treatment methods including new eyeglasses with multifocal lenses, glasses exclusively for reading, contact lenses or Lasik eye surgery.
