Strabismus (Crossed Eyes)

Strabismus, or crossed eyes, is an eye condition that can cause sufferers to experience reduced binocular function in addition to problems with depth perception and visual space orientation. Those suffering from strabismus are generally unable to align both eyes appropriately, causing one to turn inward or outward without the other following suit.

Strabismus is a condition that will not go away on its own, and children experiencing strabismus are not going to grow out of it. Without treatment, the condition will likely worsen, and it can lead to a range of additional problems including lazy eye, a reduction in overall visual performance or amblyopia, which affects the performance of one eye and occurs when the eye and the brain fail to function together as they should.
